I predicted the current crisis. Yes I know- they all say that but it's true. I saw it coming and tried to get out of my property investments which I was only partly successful in doing. This has given me some serious problems and has changed my life for the worse. I'm poorer and less happy for it. Entirely my fault and a source of much soul searching. However I do take some small pleasure that I was right and therefore not completely stupid. Now I can see what else is coming. It isn't nice. If you can't stand being told the facts don't read this. Go and play with your Nintendo Wii or vote for Gordon (no don't).
I'm writing this blog so that it's all on record and nobody can say I didn't warn them. In fact I can climb on my soapbox and shout "I TOLD YOU SO, HA HA HA" as the UK slips into anarchy.
My Predictions for 2009/10/11
1. Continued increases in unemployment, bankruptcies, house repos and general mayhem.
2. More and more ridiculous policies from our wonderful leaders who will be promising that we will have a return to the good times if we only spend this, make a law about that or give another handout to the rich (led by idiot and incompetent in chief Gordon Brown).
3. The collapse of the oil price has already led to delays or cancellations of most new projects including Canadian oil shale, offshore fields almost everywhere and even some less accessible fields in Saudi Arabia. Leaks suggest that the International Energy Agency's (IEA) forthcoming report will forecast global oil depletion to be 9.1 percent in 2009. Without all the new projects shortages and huge price rises are unavoidable.Research "Peak Oil" for more info (Jim Kunstlers blog is one of the best) .
4. Social unrest will increase massively in China where millions are being laid off as factories close. However China is only one country badly affected. I doubt that any will escape some degree of unrest made worse by fuel price hikes and shortages caused by the virtual collapse of global trade.
5. Governments have a very unfortunate tendency to resort to wars to divert attention from internal problems and try to grab resources. Don’t be surprised if we see some nasty stuff from the new messiah Obama and his extremist advisors.
6. Expect more authoritarian legislation and governmental control to allow them to keep the lid on dissent. Increasingly propaganda will be issued from the “independent” media who already have little grasp on reality.
7. No rational policies will be adopted. Logically all new road building should be stopped, railways should be no1 priority if we are not to slip into the 18th century or worse, immigration should be reversed, all military adventures should be halted along with grandiose projects like aircraft carriers, civil servants should be sacked by the million, regional government should be given far more power, new food and essential service systems should be designed, small scale agriculture should be greatly encouraged and many more relocalisation projects should be implemented. You can look forward to NONE of these as logic has no part in government, only expediency and greed.
8. Possible collapse of currencies or at least alternating inflation and deflation, potentially to savage degrees.
9. We may well see the rise of marginal political parties, remember the Nazis came to power due to economic disaster on a much smaller scale than we have coming. Also the BNP have a much more realistic take on the future than any other party in the UK, check out their website if you don’t believe me.
Recommendations
1. Stock up on food, clothing, all manner of survival equipment, soap, shampoo, matches and other “essentials” as they will become more difficult and expensive to obtain thereby being useful for barter as well as personal use.
2. Keep a close eye on gold/silver prices. At the low point of gold invest any spare cash in it as it will appreciate greatly at some point.
3. Have contingency plans for various scenarios. Where would you go if your town became dangerous? What happens if food is short? Will you be able to get cash if there is a run on banks? Do you know any “useful” people? If not- practise making friends.
4. Cut out any and all expenses that are not absolutely essential. Get rid of loans by selling expensive cars (if you can), making do with your old fridge and not upgrading to an enormous Yankee type. Consider (very attractive idea) selling the wife into slavery or put the kids on Ebay. Bankruptcy may be a good option to get rid of the deadweight of excessive debts.
5. Learn a useful skill that does not require electricity or oil and will be in demand. Woodworking, plumbing and gardening leap to mind.
6. DON’T BUY A HOUSE
7. DON’T BUY A NEW CAR
8. DON’T TAKE OUT A LOAN
9. Watch what’s happening using truly independent sources on the internet and don’t rely on traditional media as by the time they tell you we’re screwed you really will be.
10. NEVER give politicians support for their policies. Most people do not know or care what really happens in the world so we have the government we deserve and therefore they are bastards who should be given as little encouragement as possible.
